ALABAMA DIRECT ASSESSMENT OF WRITING
"Twenty-Weeks" is a program that prepares 5th, 7th, and 10th graders to clear the ADAW. Even those students who have trouble writing a single paragraph will be able to meet or exceed the standards. Your school can reasonably expect to clear 60-70% of your students after following this step-by-step program.
It starts by preparing the brain for writing; it teaches students how to focus on a topic; it uses templates for the essay format; and it shows students how to score their own essays.
ALABAMA READING AND MATH TEST
Students learn how to apply skills learned for the ADAW to answer the open-ended questions on both the reading and the math part of the ARMT. With the help of templates and scaffolding, students are soon able to formulate level 3 answers on their own. After enough practice with the teacher and the group, the brain will have placed this learning into long-term memory.
BRAIN FRIENDLY TEACHING
Based on Eric Jensen's book TEACHING WITH THE BRAIN IN MIND and on movements from BRAIN GYM, Brain Friendly Teaching demonstrates for teachers and students alike that the brain wants to learn when we engage it and give it what it needs, including water, movement, scaffolding, immediate feedback, and affirmation.
